Jeremy and I are heading to Los Angeles next month! I’ll be spending a few days at a work conference, and we’ve tacked on a few extra days to explore the city. We’re feeling all kinds of excited and overwhelmed with the amount of things there are to do and see!
We recognize that we won’t be able to squeeze anything and everything into our weeklong visit, but will definitely attempt to do as much as we possibly can. We’ve started adding to our bucket lists based on some initial research, but would love to hear your recommendations if you’re familiar with the city! We know we have quite a few friends and family who have visited or lived (or still live) in LA or the surrounding areas.
The conference takes place in Long Beach, but afterwards we’ll be staying around the downtown LA, Hollywood, and Silver Lake areas. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll also be able to spend a day at Universal Studios (mostly for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter) and one at Disneyland!
We’re hoping to do a few self-guided walking tours, maybe one officially guided tour (we love haunted tours but are up for anything), try lots of food and brews, and maybe visit a beach or two. We’re also always up for considering a daytrip slightly outside of the city, if you have any suggestions.
We are doing our best to prep ourselves for just how touristy it’s going to be compared to so many of our other trips – this might be the biggest and busiest city we’ve ever visited. We’ve heard a few times over already that we should expect to only get to a small portion of what we’re hoping to, since long lines, wait times, traffic, and crowds tend to cause a lot of delays in LA. With that, we’re more than happy to hear any tips you may have for things to do or places to visit that can limit that madness even just a bit.
This trip is already feeling a lot different than what we’re used to – usually opting for slower-paced big cities and avoiding tourist traps like theme parks – but in a way, that’s making us look forward to it all the more! We’re ready to get out of our comfort zone and experience a completely new-to-us part of the country!
Feel free to let us know what we should consider when it comes to planning for Los Angeles in September!
