It’s been months since I’ve traveled more than 50 miles outside of the city limits. Needless to say, I’ve had some major travel fever going on over here. I’m excited to share that Jeremy and I will be heading to New Orleans in May!
I feel so fortunate to work for a company that encourages me to choose a conference to further develop my professional skills each year. Of course, the content of each conference comes into play when deciding where to go, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I also take into consideration the location. And when I came across a conference filled to the brim with topics and speakers relevant to my job AND saw it was located in New Orleans, I may have flipped out a bit!
I’ve long wanted to visit this bustling city, so rich in history, and have spent hours upon hours researching its story, folklore, traditions, and culture over the years. Several of my favorite films and pieces of literature also take place in NOLA, and I’ve wanted to attend the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival forever. Luckily, this year, it’s taking place the weekend before my conference, and my all-time favorite, Tom Petty, is headlining!
The stars have aligned, friends.
While spontaneity is the spice of life, and we love unexpectedly finding hidden gems and exploring without a strict itinerary in the cities we visit, being 100% those “go with the flow” type of travelers has caused us to miss quite a bit in our adventures over the years. So, I’m trying to be a little more organized with our travel plans in 2017. This is especially important as I’ll be pretty limited on time to explore, being in an all-day conference the majority of the week. Really, we’ll be doing most of our exploration in a weekend. To start the planning, I’ve created a Pinterest board for inspiration, and will narrow down our must-do-and-see list from there.
So, it’s time to spill. Have you been to NOLA before? What are the can’t-miss experiences? And if you haven’t been, but have dreamed of visiting, let us know what you hope to cross off of your bucket list one day. We’ll do our best to knock out each recommendation and report back!
What trips are you planning this year, and what’s recently been added to your bucket list for the future?
